San Antonio, or Sant Antoni (us Brits do like to change things!!) is absolutely crammed with bars, restaurants, clubs and a superb long sandy beach. San Antonio is definitely an Ibiza resort which comes alive in the summer months, out of season is has a much quieter leisurely feel so bear this in mind. For San Antonio nightlife, try Es Paradis club with all your English DJ favourites and more. Choose from a selection of restaurants covering the full range of Spanish/Majorca, English traditional, fish restaurants and general Mediterranean influenced food fare. Cafe bars are numerous and perfect for pre-club drinks.
Ibiza is renowned for it's club scene, and although there is only one gay only club, Anfora in Dalt Vila and this is seeing some structural changes and improvements recently. Check out Ibiza Boy's web link to the right for full details. Anfora is not exactly cutting edge dance music, but for great atmosphere, nice dark room, cave like dancefloor and a real friendly welcome it can't be beaten.
San Antonio is of course a well known Ibiza club resort with all things sandy beaches, bars and restaurants and lots of shops. There's another side to San Antonio as well though. Check out some of Sant Antoni's narrow backstreets with fascinating architecture and great for pottering around in. San Antonio has a great clean and long promenade, along with little harbour, perfect for evening strolls and quieter out of season. Of course the best known of all areas in San Antonio is the Sunset Strip, where you'll find those familiiar names, the famous Café del Mar, a packed cafe bar with a great sunset outlook and great chill music. The famous Sunset Strip reaches right along the seafront at San Antonio, between Carrer General Balanzat and Carrer Vara de Rey, and there's lots of bars and cafe bars to hook into along here!
The two main clubs in San Antonio are Eden and Es Paradis, and they heave in the summer months. San Antonio, as you'll discover, is pretty much Ibiza club resort only, and it wakes up usually around 10pm and runs through til morning. You'll find some of Ibiza's best bars in San Antonio, and it's a lot cheaper here than in Ibiza Town, with man of the pre-club bars/discos free to enter. So if you're looking for the cheaper Ibiza clubbing angle choose San Antonio. It's just as good a spot for San Rafel and Ibiza Clubs Privilege and Amnesia located there.
Also in San Antonio is a charming 14th century church which has a distinct 17th century polygonal defense tower. It's well worth pushing out from San Antonio as well in your Ibiza hire car to explore some of the idyllic bays in the area, for example Cala d'Albarca to the north of Sant Mateu. It's a wild coast up here and there's some spectacular walking country. Check out Cala Salad as well, oh boy what a beautiful spot. At Cala Salada you'll discover beautiful crystal clear seawater, old boathouses and pinewoods which give off their own scent and surround the beach. Ibiza heaven!
San Antonio bay, stretching west from Punta des Moli, is also known locally as Badia de Sant Antoni, and it's a little calmer and more laid back compared to Ibiza party hotspot San Antonio town. You get lots of Ibiza tourist visitors in San Antonio bay as well though and you'll also find plenty of hotels, bars and restaurants on tap for visitors in the summer months. Many close down out of season though, so be aware of this.
Amnesia, situated half way between Ibiza Town and San Antonio in San Rafael is celebrated as host of the best gay party in Ibiza, namely La Troya Asesina. Many agree that it's the presence of Barcelona born DJ Oliver that really gives Amnesia it's kick, combined with a supremo sound system. Marti rates it anyway (see Ibiza Boy's link to the right), so it'll be good.
Blues in Ibiza Town pulls in a local crowd, especially out of season. It's smaller than the big clubs and free to get in, bonus, plus cheap drinks and out of season local DJs pour in so it's a venue for exploring new talent! Check with Marti's review.
If you were looking for the chill, then you'd haved headed for Bora Bora the ultimate pre-club beach party, or chill all evening if that's your bag. But Resident DJ is Gee Moore amd Bora Bora on the superb Playa d'en Boss beach has been shut down, as have a few other smaller dance/club venues on Ibiza. Here's what DJ Gee had to say!, 'Jealousy and greed are very powerful and destructive human emotions and unfortunately we now see them being used against all who have been coming to Ibiza to enjoy the party and make it wealthy over the past thirty years or so.
I don't want to use this writing to promote those responsible for the islands closures any more than necessary, it's incredible and sad to think that Bora Bora, DC10 terrace, Sa Trinxa, KM5, Kumharas, Benirras, etc could be such a threat to those who feel their superiority being challenged, these are more than parties they are traditions that help bring people on to the island who also feed the clubs, if they are to be the only ones here then the sprit of the island is lost, Disneyland with only Mickey mouse is not so much of an attraction ......Oh, and tables are for dancing on.' It's certainly a strange turn of events. Still Bora Bora has been touring, and will no doubt find a new venue soon, best of luck to it!
